Asphaltene deposition during oil production and transportation causes extensive damage to reservoirs and wellhead equipment. In this study, the effects of native and non-native resins as well as their mixtures on the asphaltene deposition process are investigated. A novel pressure, volume, and temperature (PVT) visual cell is used to check the effect of resin on asphaltene deposition at different pressures and reservoir temperatures. Two Iranian crude oil samples with different potential of asphaltene deposition (low and high) were used in these tests. During depressurizing in the presence of native and non-native resins, the amount of asphaltene deposited was measured. To monitor any changes in surface topography, the atomic force microscopy (AFM) technique was used in this study. The results show that the amount of asphaltene deposited decreases as the amount of resin increases; however, less asphaltene is deposited when the resin mixture is used than when the native resin is used. At high ratios of resin to asphaltene, the stability of asphaltene is higher, but as the pressure increases, the stability of the asphaltene decreases more than expected. The surface property changes indicate that, in the presence of the resin mixture, the surfaces are less affected.

Asphaltene precipitation in oil operations contributes to serious technical and non-technical issues, which is affected by reservoir conditions such as pressure, temperature, dilution ratio, and type of diluent. In this work, a mathematical correlation is introduced to forecast the weight percent (wt%, g/g) of precipitated asphaltene in light oils. Experimental data are obtained based on high-resolution images taken from high-pressure cell processed by the image analysis method. Employing experimental data, a simple and precise correlation on the basis of the scaling/fractal theory is developed. In this study, the amount of asphaltene precipitation is considered in terms of pressure and dilution ratio in which the coefficients are simply calculated through the Vandermone matrix. Comparison between the model results and real data reveals a good match where the average coefficient of correlation (R 2 ) is above 0.95. Additionally, two previous predictive methods, namely the Bayesian belief network and scaling models, are utilized and the outputs are compared (e.g. the magnitudes of mean squared error (MSE) are 0.0065 and 0.038 for C6 and C7, respectively), implying the effectiveness of the new deterministic tool in terms of accuracy and reliability such that the average MSE is 0.006 for both C 6 and C 7 . The trustworthiness of the real asphaltene precipitation data is also assessed by the statistical leverage approach based on the hat matrix, standardized residuals, and William plot to specify the applicability domain (AD) of the predictive models. It was found that all deterministic techniques presented in this study result in satisfactory accuracy, since the entire collected experimental data are reliable within AD.

This article focuses on 3D fluorescence spectroscopy. After defining its principle, we then look at the factors which influence the phenomenon of fluorescence. There follows a brief discussion of the principal chemometric techniques implemented to manipulate and exploit fluorescence data, which have different and specific properties. A new article will describe the main endogenous fluorophores found in certain food, biological and environmental matrices, as well as exogenous fluorophores. Frontal fluorescence has seen considerable development during the past 15 years in a wide variety of fields, which is why we shall also be focusing on its principal applications in terms of the objectives of different studies: classification, authentication, quality control or process monitoring indicators. Fluorescence data generate a spectral fingerprint that can characterise samples within a very large space of variability, such as that which is inherent in food samples. Fluorescence spectroscopy can thus be used in a broad range of applications involving biological samples, animal tissues or environmental samples. Most of these applications are still qualitative, although quantitative methods are available. It is generally acknowledged that 3D fluorescence fingerprinting is more suitable for recognition, classification or detection processes when there is a need to save time and achieve optimum sensitivity. With the recent development of big data and BI, frontal fluorescence spectroscopy will soon benefit from the considerable power of artificial intelligence technologies.
