This paper develops a model based on the Markov Chain technique to evaluate performance of a public transport route. The model addresses a special situation where a passenger left behind by a bus leaves the system without any further waiting to make an alternative travel arrangement. Such reneging behavior is indicative of an infinite penalty associated with further waiting from a passenger viewpoint. Apart from the theoretical derivations for the various attributes of interest, numerical examples to analyze the system performance (such as expected number of passengers served, expected number of abandoned passengers, and expected amount of unused space on the transit system) are presented. This provides insights for optimum selection of fleet size and size of vehicles

Electric public bus scheduling problem is studied for the service in Chulalongkorn university campus. This paper presents an integrated bus scheduling simulation combined with options of energy storage system with the target to minimize the wait time.The bus system is simulated by Arena software for the bus scheduling. The solution dictates the change of the bus schedule; the resulting change of wait time is then observed. Lead-acid equipped with supercapacitor and lithium-ion batteries were compared in this study to exhibit the improved performance. The supercapacitor hybrid and lithium-ion battery provides an improvement of 14% and 45.7% in discharge energy, respectively. The supercapacitor hybrid was shown to reduce battery stress as well as improved driving dynamics. The optimized lead-acid case can reduce the waiting time significantly and at the similar level to the supercapacitor hybrid. With much higher cost, the lithium-ion battery reduce the waiting time the most by 25% due to its superior energy efficiency as well as shorter charging period.

Buses are the most widely used in transit technology today. Due to the limited other types of public transportation, passenger demand for using the bus network is higher. In fact, static structure and real operation of bus scheduling have some difference with each other, due to some cases, such as traffic congestion and accumulation of delays of buses missions. The most different on bus operation elements is duration rush traffic period that standard deviation is very far in compare by duration light traffic period. Proper Schedule of bus service is a main issue in reliability of bus operation. In the present paper we compare the different bus operation elements that obtained by questionnaire duration rush and light traffic period. Hence, a case study based on an actual public bus operation in Tehran, Iran is used to demonstrate the differences. Index Terms-Efficient bus lane, waiting time, average speed of bus operation, journey time.
