Multiresidue method for the analysis of multiclass pesticides in agricultural products by gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry

Abstract: A multiresidue method is described for determining 55 organophosphorus and organochlorinated compounds and pyrethroids commonly used in crop protection. Pesticide residues are extracted from samples with a mixture of ethyl acetate and sodium sulfate, obtaining a final preconcentration of I mg sample (ml extract)(-1). No additional clean-up steps are necessary. Analysis is performed by gas chromatography by using a combination of positive chemical ionisation (PCI) and electron impact (EI) ionisation modes and t… Show more

“…Average recoveries were in between 52% and 114% while the RSD values greater than or equal to 29% in all the cases were reported (Agu¨era et al, 2002). A simple, fast and inexpensive, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry method was introduced for the pesticide determination by single-phase extraction of sample (10 g) with acetonitrile (10 mL), followed by liquid-liquid partitioning after addition of 4 g anhydrous MgSO 4 + 1 g NaCl.…”

“…Cui et al (2006) have reported the effect of chlorpyrifos and cypermethrin due to the formation of DNA adducts in primary mouse hepatocytes using bioluminescence assay. The most analytical techniques for cypermethrin detection are based on chromatography and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay which require trained manpower and are timeconsuming (Janghel et al 2007;Lee et al 2004;Armenta et al 2005;Aguera et al 2002;Vazquez et al 2005;Jin and Webster 1998). Interestingly, Saxena et al (2005) have investigated the effect of cypermethrin on root meristem cells of Allium sativum and Allium cepa using ultraviolet (UV) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy techniques, respectively.…”

“…Thus, the development of analytical methodologies for monitoring pesticide residues in food, specifically of carrots, is an important subject of research in order to facilitate food quality evaluation, thereby avoiding indirect or even direct exposure to pesticides (Agüerra 2002).…”
