Multiport converters for hybrid power sources

Abstract: Abstract-Multiport converters, a promising concept for hybrid power sources, have attracted increasing research interest recently. The use of a single power processing stage to interface multiple power inputs integrates power conversion for a hybrid power source. This structure removes redundant power stages that would exist in the conventional approach that uses multiple converters. The multiport structure is promising from the viewpoints of centralized control and compact packaging. The proposed basic bidire… Show more

“…As a result, the whole system can be viewed as a single power processing stage that has multiple interfacing ports. In these systems, input power sources are usually connected to a high-frequency AC link, and isolation transformer plus AC/DC/AC interfacing converters are utilized to connect the generation into the load/grid [16]- [20]. “…There are isolated and non-isolated DC/DCconverter topologies available for HESS-applications (e.g. buck/boost, half-bridge, full-bridge) with the trend to highly efficient and cost effective multi-port converters with a reduced number of conversion stages [24].…”

“…For connecting multiple sources and storage either multiple converters or an integrated multiport converter can be used. An integrated multiport converter proved to be more efficient than the multiple converter structure because of its simplified structure and centralized control [4,5,6,7]. Recently various topologies of multiport converters have been reported in the literature because of their increasing merits.…”
