Multiple and virtual photon processes in radiation-induced magnetoresistance oscillations in two-dimensional electron systems

Abstract: Recently discovered new structures and zero-resistance states outside the well-known oscillations are demonstrated to arise from multiphoton assisted processes, by a detailed analysis of microwave photoresistance in two-dimensional electron systems under enhanced radiation. The concomitant resistance dropping and the peak narrowing observed in the experiments are also reproduced. We show that the radiation-induced suppression of average resistance comes from virtual photon effect and exists throughout the whol… Show more

“…In particular, in the limit of well separated LLs the FMIRO are dominated by multiphoton inelastic mechanism. Provided τ in /τ q ≫ 1, the multiphoton displacement mechanism [99] yields a parametrically smaller contribution and can be neglected. At weaker magnetic field the effects related to microwave-induced sidebands in the DOS become important.…”

“…(4). Similarly to the integer case, there exists [14] a multiphoton contribution to the fractional MIRO governed by the displacement mechanism [4,5,6], which has a similar form but is a factor ωcτin/τqΓ ≫ 1 smaller [16] than the inelastic one (7).…”
