In order to utilize the full potential of industrial robots its human operators need to gain a deep technical understanding of rather complex mechatronic devices. However, such knowledge does not come easily, its building blocks is university level mathematics, physics, mechanical and electrical engineering, control theory and computer science. In this paper we will shift focus, by asking the question; could we expect that the robot system should understand us humans, rather requiring the opposite?A selection of our initiatives and recent developments in programming and control of industrial robots will be presented to promote a development towards a more human friendly future at the shop-floor.
