Multifunctional N-P-doped carbon dots for regulation of apoptosis and autophagy in B16F10 melanoma cancer cells and in vitro imaging applications

Abstract: Rationale: The present study reports the multifunctional anticancer activity against B16F10 melanoma cancer cells and the bioimaging ability of fluorescent nitrogen-phosphorous-doped carbon dots (NPCDs). Methods: The NPCDs were synthesized using a single-step, thermal treatment and were characterized by TEM, XPS, fluorescence and UV-Vis spectroscopy, and FTIR analysis. The anticancer efficacy of NPCDs was confirmed by using cell viability assay, morphological evaluation, fluo… Show more

“…[29] On the other hand, N1s deconvoluted XPS spectra display the existence of pyrrolic, graphitic N, and À NH 2 peaks at the 400.1 eV, 400.9 eV, and 402.4 eV, respectively. [30][31][32] The deconvoluted XPS spectra of O1s exhibits a peak around 531.6 eV and 533.2 eV corresponding to the CÀ O/CÀ N/O=P and O=CÀ O groups, respectively. The deconvoluted P2p spectra show two distinct peaks at 134.30 eV, and 135.08 eV, which indicate the PÀ C, and PÀ O bonds, respectively.…”

“…The melanoma, despite of its low incidence, is the most aggressive cancer among skin cancers and is responsible for about 80% of the causes of death [ 35 ]. In addition to being highly aggressive, malignant melanoma cancer is also resistant to drugs [ 36 ].…”

“…Recently, the self-bioactivities of CDs have attracted much attention. In particular, the bacteriostat, 5–8 antitumour, 9 free radical scavenging action, 10 anti-inflammation, 11 anti-gout effects, 12 , 13 haemostasis, 14 hypoglycaemic bioactivity 15 and analgesia 16 effects of CDs have been widely investigated. Although there are many studies on the functions and applications of CDs, research focusing on CDs in Chinese herbal medicine is relatively scarce.…”
