Multifunctional Magnesium Organic Framework-Based Microneedle Patch for Accelerating Diabetic Wound Healing

Abstract: Diabetic wound healing is one of the major challenges in the biomedical fields. The conventional single drug treatments have unsatisfactory efficacy, and the drug delivery effectiveness is restricted by the penetration depth. Herein, we develop a magnesium organic framework-based microneedle patch (denoted as MN-MOF-GO-Ag) that can realize transdermal delivery and combination therapy for diabetic wound healing. Multifunctional magnesium organic frameworks (Mg-MOFs) are mixed with poly(γ-glutamic acid) (γ-PGA)… Show more

“…The successful synthesis of Mg-GA MOF was further demonstrated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the routine XRD pattern were shown in Fig. 2 B, which was consistent with previous reports [ 42 , 43 ]. The crystallinity of Mg-GA MOF was calculated to be 6.96 (0.07)% ( Fig.…”

“…Recently, the application of microneedle technology is expanded to wound management for its firm anchoring to tissues in a minimally invasive manner. [49,50] To demonstrate the advantages of MN patch in the treatment of open wound, CINP@SiO 2 -HA hydrogel dressing was utilized as a control. The needle tips of MN patch can pierce into the subcutaneous tissue like a wedge, thus MN patch could firmly contact with the wound tissue, while hydrogel dressing loosely adhered to the wound and displayed obvious gaps (Figure S11, Supporting Information).…”

“…1 , PDA was bound to the PAM network through the interactions between the amino as well as catechol groups in PDA and the amino groups in PAM. Magnesium ions (Mg 2+ ) was incorporated in the hydrogel for the promoting effects on cell proliferation, differentiation, and tissue regeneration [ [24] , [25] , [26] ]. The hybrid crosslinks of covalent bonds and reversible non-covalent bonds in PDA-PAM/Mg 2+ hydrogel conferred favorable self-healing and adhesive capability.…”
