Multifunctional Hyperbranched Oligo(fluorene vinylene) Containing Pendant Crown Ether: Synthesis, Chemosensory, and Electroluminescent Properties

Abstract: Multifunctional hyperbranched oligo(fluorene vinylene) (HOFC) containing pendant crown ether was synthesized from 2,4,7-trivinyl-9,9-dihexylfluorene and 2,7-dibromo-9-(15-crown-4)-9H-fluorene via Heck coupling reaction. Their chemosensory, photophysical, and electrochemical properties were investigated and compared with those of linear oligo(fluorene vinylene) (LOFC) to elucidate the effect of hyperbranched structure. Both HOFC and LOFC exhibit selective fluorescence quenching toward Fe3+ and Ru3+, with the St… Show more

“…9) bearing a 15-crown-4 side chain, which could coordinate with cations. 134 Both hyperbranched PF 36 and its linear analogue exhibited selective fluorescence quenching toward Fe 3+ and Ru 3+ , with the Stern-Volmer coefficients to Ru 3+ being 2.0 Â 10 4 and 1.9 Â 10 4 M À1 , respectively. However, the stability constants of the formed complexes with Ru 3+ were 3.1 Â 10 3 and 5 Â 10 3 M À1 , respectively, exactly opposite to their Stern-Volmer coefficients, i.e.…”

“…This is attributed to higher interchain interaction in L‐PAE2, which is facilitated by its linear structure. However, the smaller red shift of HB‐PAE2 is mainly because of its globular structure 23. The onset of the thin film absorption spectra were used to determine the band gap of the polymers.…”

“…Chen and coworkers [69] reported another kind of metal ions responsive FHBP, which contained crown ether (15-crown-4) segments (hb-P6, Scheme 6). Crown ethers are commonly employed as molecular hosts to complex with alkali and alkaline earth metal cations, transition metal cations and ammonium cations.…”
