Multidetector Computed Tomography of Renal Vasculature. Anatomy and Normal Variants.

Abstract: Multi Detector Computed Tomography Angiography (MDCTA) provides a fast, non-invasive modality for the evaluation of the renal vascular pedicle. CTA can reliably and accurately depict the renal arteries and veins and approaches conventional angiography in the assessment of most vascular abnormalities. Knowledge of the variations in renal vascular anatomy is important before laparoscopic donor or partial nephrectomy and vascular reconstruction for renal artery stenosis or abdominal aortic aneurysm. Objective: To… Show more

“…Platt et al reported a concordance rate of 87%-95% among 117 patients, and the second Del Pizzo et al found a concordance rate of 93% among 157 cases. The research conducted by Hassan et al, (2014) stated that the accuracy value of the CT multidetector for identifying renal artery arrhythmias was 97.8%, approaching the results of the study by Satomi et al; he stated that MDCT is 99% accurate in the evaluation of renal artery variation.…”

“…The protocol of the study acquired CT data in all phases (arterial, venous and delayed). Authors observed 5.4% of false negative results in renal veins variations, whereas for arterial variations the result was 1.8%, respectively [121].…”
