Multi-wavelength mixing in a semiconductor optical amplifier and its consequence in a preamplified wavelength division multiplexing system

Abstract: WEDNESDAY MORNING / CLEO'99 / 241 sensitive to the phase of the facet reflections at higher KL.A large signal time domain travelling wave laser model is used to predict the effect of random facet phase on system penalty spread of HR/AR coated uniform grating DFB lasers. Improved system penalty with reduced spread is observed with increased KL both theoretically and experimentally.

“…Although still relevant, the role of FWM is more modest. Similar results were obtained for equivalent curves produced with = 600 GHz, and = 800 GHz, and are in agreement with the experimental results presented in reference Schares et al (1999) for tighter channel plans and a ten times lower bit rate.…”

“…2 agrees qualitatively very well with the experimental curves presented in Fig. 4.6 of Schares et al (1999). The comparison cannot be (or is expected to be) taken further because of the difference in channel spacing, bit rate, and SOA characteristics.…”
