In the current research, Software Defined Network (SDN) is implemented and tested on campus networks to build a framework for easier and manageable, more extensive networks. SKRU deployed ONC software from Ruijie for network administration. The current study also defines the Internet of Things (IoT) devices among faculty, including IoT for Smart farm from agriculture faculty. In an SDN architecture, the ability to configure, manage, secure, and optimize network resources via software affords many benefits to enterprises. This article is contextualized from the concept of the IoT, its security, the interoperability of VLANs, and software-defined networks. By taking into account existing architectures and technologies, intelligent infrastructure is proposed to support all processes. Based on the implementation and evaluation of SDN, valuable insights and research directions are discussed.

The use of the virtual local area networks (VLAN) technology is a well-known method of restricting access to network elements in heterogeneous network infrastructures, including critical infrastructures. The essence of the VLAN usage is to create a set of virtual subnets and in the distribution of computers on these subnets. This distribution is described by a "computer-subnet" matrix, called the VLAN-based access control scheme. The formation of an access control scheme is an NP-complete problem, and for its solution several methods are known, including genetic algorithms. However, for large critical infrastructures, the solution of this problem by known methods is very laborious due to its large dimension. The paper proposes to introduce the concept of "roles" for VLANs and use the rolebased approach to optimize VLAN-based access control schemes. To solve the optimization problem, an improved genetic algorithm is proposed. Improvements are associated with the multichromosome representation of individuals, a new type of fitness function, a two-dimensional type of crossover operation, and a number of other aspects. The results of the experiments show the high efficiency of the proposed genetic algorithm.

Modern technology is essential for all healthy, economic, and educational sectors. Using modern technology involves high-performance networks in terms of quality of service (QoS) parameters such as delay, throughput, bandwidth, and security. A campus network involves wire and the wireless environment with and without virtual local area network (VLAN) technology has been simulated using optimized network engineering tools (OPNET). The simulation model includes four scenarios that involve heavy-loaded File transfer protocol (FTP) and web browsing applications with two logical groups of users. The simulation results show that the VLAN overcome LAN networks in terms of bandwidth and security. This has been done by reducing the throughput in both sending and receiving levels to the confidential servers. The VLAN has also reduced the broadcast domain which results in a high-power efficiency. Moreover, the VLAN network technology has been proved to have lower values of delay in transferring files and packets than LAN network technology. In addition, VLAN technology generally has been decreased values of throughput regardless of the way of connection between servers and workstations. This, in turn, allows taking advantage of wireless connection features in terms of flexibility of installation and speed of configuration.
