Performance evaluation of campus network involving VLAN and broadband multimedia wireless networks using OPNET modeler

Abstract: Modern technology is essential for all healthy, economic, and educational sectors. Using modern technology involves high-performance networks in terms of quality of service (QoS) parameters such as delay, throughput, bandwidth, and security. A campus network involves wire and the wireless environment with and without virtual local area network (VLAN) technology has been simulated using optimized network engineering tools (OPNET). The simulation model includes four scenarios that involve heavy-loaded File trans… Show more

“…Results from the simulation show that VLAN outperforms LAN networks in terms of bandwidth and security, which was achieved by reducing the throughput in both sending and receiving levels to the confidential servers and also reducing the broadcast domain thereby achieving greater power efficiency. With regards to file and packet transfer, VLAN showed lower delay and increased throughput over LAN providing advantages in terms of installation flexibility and configuration speed" [5].…”

“…The traffic engineering solved this issue by utilizing some tunneling techniques such as virtual local area network (VLAN). VLAN is a technology that, is separated from the physical core network, which could configure logical networks on layer 2 (data link layer) [7]. This technique allows making a reservation for some network resources for specific traffic.…”

“…The vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) is an infrastructure-less network created as a result of developments in wireless communications and networking technologies [1]. This new technology provides ubiquitous connectivity to vehicles while in motion thereby creating efficient vehicular communications that enable intelligent transportation systems (ITS) [2].…”
