Multi‐strain yeast fraction product supplementation can alleviate weaning stress and improve performance and health of piglets raised under low sanitary conditions

Abstract: BACKGROUND This study was conducted to evaluate the health benefits to weaning pigs, raised under low sanitary conditions, of dietary supplementation with a multi‐strain yeast fraction product (Cyberlindnera jadinii and Saccharomyces cerevisiae). In total, 160 weaning pigs (7.21 ± 1.05 kg) were randomly allotted to two dietary treatments in a 6‐week feeding trial. The dietary treatments included a corn‐soybean meal‐based basal diet (CON) and CON + 2 g kg−1 multi‐strain yeast fraction product (MsYF) during week… Show more

“…Nutritional measures are extensively employed to reduce weaning stress except controlling environmental conditions [ 10 , 11 ]. Although in-feed antibiotics, high zinc, and high copper can effectively prevent pig diarrhea, widespread concerns have arisen on the antibiotic resistance and environmental pollution problems [ 12 , 13 ].…”

“…However, the levels of IFN-γ in the jejunum were reduced significantly. Most of the research suggested that the expression of IFN-γ was higher in the mid-jejunum of weaning piglets ( Upadhaya et al, 2019 ). Nevertheless, similar results were shown for weaning Holstein calves.…”

“…The composition of AY has been summarized as: 3.5-3.9% nucleic acids, 11-22% of β-glucan, 3-12% MOS, 30.0-41.1% crude protein, and 2.51-5.00 % crude fat (Berto et al, 2020;Namted et al, 2021). Using 0.2-0.5% AY as a feed additive in pig diets seemed to improve the performance and immune function of weaned and finished pigs (Upadhaya et al, 2019;Berto et al, 2020;Namted et al, 2021) (Table 2).…”
