Multi-scale modeling and simulation of synchronous machine in phase-domain

Abstract: This paper presents a multi-scale model of synchronous machine in phase-domain for efficient and accurate simulation of diverse transients. It makes use of the simulation methodology frequency-adaptive simulation of transients (FAST) in which the shift frequency appears as a simulation parameter in addition to the time-step size. Through appropriate setting of both shift frequency and time-step size, the proposed synchronous machine model enables the integrative simulation of electromagnetic and electromechani… Show more

“…The adaptive frequency shifting of the Fourier spectrum of analytic signals that describe the transients under study is achieved, leading to the method frequency‐adaptive simulation of transients (FASTs) . The FAST‐based multi‐scale transient models of distributed‐parameter transmission line and synchronous machinery were developed in the works of Gao and Strunz, and Ye et al . The SFA and FAST are mainly applied in the alternating current (AC) power system that contains a fundamental frequency of typical 50 or 60 Hz.…”

“…The multi-scale PD machine model [12] maintains high efficiency over the EMTP-type PD model when slow transients are emulated. In spite of this, the self and mutual inductances of the PD machine model are time-varying.…”
