A novel approach for the simultaneous and selective analysis of chlortetracycline, doxycycline, 4-epichlortetracycline, oxytetracycline, metacycline, and tetracycline by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with sensitive post-column chemiluminescence reaction was set up. Six tetracyclines were separated through a simple and effective isocratic procedure using a mixture of acetonitrile and 3.5 mM methanesulfonic acid. After that, intensive chemiluminescence signals were produced by the reaction between cerium(IV) and methoxylated cypridina luciferin analogues system in the presence of tetracyclines. Under the appropriate experimental conditions, the developed method was evaluated by testing of linearity, limits of detection, precision, and accuracy. The limit of detection was from 2 to 10 nM and relative standard deviation of intraday precision was below 9%. The developed high-performance liquid chromatography with chemiluminescence method has been performed for the with trace analysis of tetracycline antibiotic residues in milk samples with satisfactory results.

A simple, fast, and efficient method, “enhanced matrix removal of lipids” (EMR‐lipid), was proposed, optimized, and validated for identifying five polar heterocyclic amines (HCAs) in meat samples that ranged from high‐protein (beef and chicken) to high‐fat (pork bacon) matrices. The protocol involves an initial solid–liquid phase extraction followed by a rapid dispersive solid‐phase extraction using EMR‐lipid sorbents and salting‐out partitioning. Acetonitrile containing formic acid at two levels (1% and 2%) efficiently extracted HCAs from different meat matrices. Liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) with selective reaction monitoring mode was developed for qualitative and quantitative analysis. The highest MS/MS responses and better peak separation of analytes were achieved by adjusting mobile phases to pH 3.0 with instrumental detection limits between 0.01 and 0.05 ng/mL. Good linearity of standard curves was obtained in both pure solvents and postspiked meat extracts between 0.5 and 50.0 ng/mL. The validation results showed good precision, accuracy, and sensitivity for detecting HCAs in spiked meat samples. Satisfactory recoveries of four HCAs were achieved: 65% to 111% in beef, 71% to 106% in bacon, and 42% to 77% in chicken. Matrix effects were also assessed and showed less than –20% of ion suppression in bacon extract, while a medium to high signal suppression was observed in beef (–37% to –55%) and chicken (–28% to –52%). This optimized EMR‐lipid method provides acceptable results and advantages for determining trace level HCAs in complex meat matrices.

A multiclass and multiresidue method for screening veterinary drugs and pesticides in infant formula was developed and validated using ultrahigh‐performance liquid chromatography coupled to Quadrupole‐Orbitrap high‐resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC‐HRMS). A total of 49 veterinary drugs and pesticides investigated belong to 11 classes including antivirals, anticoccidials, macrolides, pyrethroids, insecticides, sulfonamides, beta‐agonists, sedatives, thyreostats, nonsteroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs, and other pharmacologically active substances. A generic sample preparation and highly selective acquisition mode of parallel reaction monitoring (PRM) were deliberately incorporated to perform efficient screening analysis. As a result, the screening target concentrations of the analytes varied from 1 to 500 μg/kg with ≤5% of false compliant rate as specified in Decision 2002/657/EC for screening analysis. The average recoveries ranged from 40.7 to 124.9% as well as the relative standard deviations from 4.2 to 26.6%, respectively. The matrix effects and interferences were effectively controlled by integrated application of dispersive solid phase extraction, PRM scan mode, and matrix‐matched standard calibration. The proposed method will be helpful to provide applicable strategy for screening residues in infant formula with surveillance purpose.
