Multi-Body Impact Motion with Friction—Analysis, Simulation, and Experimental Validation

Abstract: When a multi-body system collides with a single body or with another multi-body system, impact dynamics with friction should be considered. This paper presents a general computer oriented analysis of impact dynamics incorporating friction. The presence of friction between sliding contacts during the impact makes the problem difficult since the events such as reverse sliding or sticking, which may occur at different times throughout the impact, must be determined. The boundary representations of the bodies are … Show more

“…When n*1, the post-impact velocities represented by equation (8) can be computed from the pre-impact velocities by using the frictional impact analysis results [13]. The dynamics of the part between the nth and (n#1)th impacts L ( ) L> , can be obtained as shown in equation (9) by integrating equation (4).…”

“…Luminaries of science such as Coulomb developed friction studies, but there is still no simple model that can be universally used by designers to calculate the friction force for a given pair of bodies in contact. In recent years, there has been much interest on the subject of friction and many research papers have focused on the subject [26][27][28].…”
