MRI in the Evaluation of Adnexal Masses with Histopathology Correlation

Abstract: Adnexal masses pose a diagnostic dilemma to the gynaecologist as well as radiologist because of their varied spectrum. The most important thing that needs to be determined is that whether the lesion is benign or malignant, so that the patient gets the appropriate treatment based on the pathology. Hence, the aim of the present study was to determine the accuracy of MRI in diagnosing benign and malignant adnexal lesions and its correlation with histopathological findings. Materials and Methods: The present study… Show more

“…The authors of the study were able to correctly identify the origin of the lesions in each case, despite the unfavorable characteristics of the masses and the surrounding environment. The results of the study further demonstrate the importance of using MRI for the diagnosis and treatment of adnexal lesions, as it can provide more accurate and reliable results than other imaging modalities [ 16 ]. T1- and T2-weighted imaging is critical in MRI for precise tissue characterization.…”

“…By separating the healthy ovary from the cyst and seeing them side by side, it is also simple to distinguish between para-ovarian cysts. MRI is more accurate than ultrasound at locating disease locations in endometriosis cases [ 16 , 18 ].…”
