Moulded polypropylene foams produced using chemical or physical blowing agents: structure–properties relationship

Abstract: Polypropylene (PP) foams have become\ud essential items due to their excellent properties. Nevertheless,\ud obtaining net-shaped PP foams with medium relative\ud densities is a complicated issue. In this article, two\ud processes able to produce moulded PP foams in this density\ud range are presented. One of them is based on a modification\ud of the pressure quench foaming method and therefore\ud uses a physical blowing agent (CO2). The second one is the\ud improved compression moulding technique which uses a\… Show more

“…In this modified process the solid precursors were foamed inside a cylindrical mold. The objective of preparing the foams in a mold is to produce foams with similar densities and controlled geometries [26]. A nominal expansion ratio (that is, density of the solid nanocomposite divided by the density of the foamed material) of 1.6 was fixed for all the foamed samples.…”

“…[1][2][3][4][5][6] Because automotive parts require lightweight materials, PP must be lightweight. [11][12][13][14][15][16][17] Chemical foaming agents and physical foaming agents are the most popular foaming agents for the preparation of PP microcellular foaming materials.
