Motorway Network Simulation Using Bluetooth Data

Abstract: This paper describes a systematic calibration process of a Vissim model, based on data derived from BT detectors. It also provides instructions how to calibrate and validate a highway network model based upon a case study and establishes an example for practitioners that are interested in designing highway networks with micro simulation tools. Within this case study, a 94,5 % proper calibration to all segments was achieved First, an overview of the systematic calibration approach that will be followed is prese… Show more

“…[26]. Researches by [27][28][29] indicate that model validation using GEH Statistics is one of the most used and generally accepted methods. GEH statistic method of validation is based on a comparison of traffic volumes between simulation and observation [28].…”

“…Mikro-simülasyon programları ile üretilen modellerin kalibre edilmesi gerekmektedir. Kalibrasyon için GEH formülü (Alomari et al, 2016;Karakikes et al, 2016), bağıl hata (Yu et al, 2006;Song et al 2012) gibi farklı yöntemler kullanılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada üretilen modellerin kalibrasyonunu ölçmek için araç hacimleri üzerinde doğrulama testi olarak kullanılan GEH (Geoffrey E. Havers) formülünden faydalanılmıştır (Jeihani et al, 2013;Oketch and Carrick, 2005).…”

“…The warm-up period was set equal to 900 seconds in order to load the network realistically before the beginning of the evaluation of the results. In order to ensure a validated representation of reality, the model was calibrated by checking for coding errors and false insertion of input data while adjusting various parameters iteratively until results fall within certain thresholds (Karakikes et al, 2016). The acceptance tolerances were determined according to Wisconsin DOT (2017).…”
