Mortality and movement behaviour of Bursaphelenchus xylophilus under different dosages of copper sulphate

Abstract: Tan Q.Q., Wu H.Y., Jiang S.X., Ma H.B. (2013) The effects of in vitro exposure to different concentrations of copper sulphate for different durations on the mortality and locomotor behaviour of Bursaphelenchus xylophilus were evaluated. Copper sulphate showed strong effects against the nematode B. xylophilus at a low concentration (5 mg/l). The median lethal concentration (LC 50 ) at 8, 24, 48, and 72 h were 31.634, 7.353, 6.557, and 5.568 mg/l, respectively. Mortality rate of B. xylophilus after treatment wit… Show more

“…Several Cu-containing proteins play critical roles in photosynthesis, respiration, superoxide radical detoxi cation, and ligni cation ( Fungicides such as copper sulphate, in which the main active ingredient is Cu, have shown in vitro nematicidal activity, causing high mortality and decreasing the mobility of B. xylophilus (Tan et al 2013).…”

“…Copper is a vital mineral and critical component of plant defensive pathways, resulting from its antimicrobial properties and function as a co-factor of several essential enzymes (Borgatta et al 2018, Strayer-Scherer et al 2018, Mir et al 2021. This compound has shown in vitro nematicidal activity against B. xylophilus and other plant pathogenic nematodes (Tan et al 2013, Mohamed et al 2019). Likewise, potassium phosphonate (PP), a phosphonic acid salt, is a systemic fungicide that activates SAR and local acquired response (LAR).…”

“…In addition, the pine wood nematode (PWN), Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, is the pathogen behind pine wilt disease, which causes serious damage to pine species in many countries [8,9]. In China, B. xylophilus is widely spread and causes billions of dollars of economic losses annually [10].…”

“…If a tree is infected with PWD, it can die within a few months [24]. PWD has severely been threatening pine resources in China, causing significant economic losses and ecological consequences to pine forests [25,26]. There were 718 county-level administrative regions in 17 provinces of China damaged by PWD, with 19.5 million dead trees and approximately 1.81 million hectares infected by the end of December 2020 [26].…”
