Morphometrical Studies on the Skull of Indian Blackbuck (Antelope cervicapra)

Abstract: studies on the skull of Indian Blackbuck (Antelope cervicapra). Int. J. Morphol., 33(3):868-876, 2015. SUMMARY:The phenotypic appearance of the head of animal species depends strongly on the shape of the skull. The morphometric studies of the skull show that variability in the shape and proportions of bones is influenced by genetic and environmental factors. The present study was carried out first time on the morphometrical characteristics on skull of Indian Blackbuck. Craniometric measurements for 48 differen… Show more

“…The height, width, circumference and area of the foramen magnum in the Zovawk was 1.56±0.01 cm, 1.87±0.01 cm, 5.78±0.06 cm and 2.29±0.04 cm 2 , respectively; whereas the same parameters were 1.74±0.008 cm, 2.03±0.006 cm, 8.22±0.01 cm and 2.77±0.006 cm 2 , respectively in blackbuck (Choudhary & Singh, 2015b). Sarma (2006) also reported that the height, width, circumference and area of the foramen magnum in Kagani goat was 3.08±0.35 cm, 3.12±0.36 cm, 12.30±0.28 cm and 2.53±0.58 cm 2 , respectively.…”

“…The skeletons were dug out from the graveyards located in the premises of Jodhpur zoo. The skulls were macerated using the hot water maceration technique of Olopade & Onwuka (2004) and modified by the authors by adding potassium hydroxide to the boiling process, which was performed at 100 °C for at least 50 min and followed by further boiling in water for another 30-40 min after careful separating the mandibles from the skulls (Choudhary & Singh, 2015). The radiographs were taken from the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, G.B.…”

“…As in human, the 3D model of the scapula belonging to Felidae was prepared and the correlation between the position of forelimb and the variations of scapula's shape were searched (Zhang et al, 2012). Some measurements of scapula in Indian blackbuck (Antelope cervicapra) were taken and its morphometry was presented (Choudhary and Singh, 2016). Right and left morphometries of the scapula belonging to pietrain sow were compared (Dudek et al, 2011).…”
