A 7-year study was conducted to determine nematode species belonging to the Longidoridae and Trichodoridae families in agricultural areas in Thrace, Turkey. For this purpose, soil samples were collected from fruit, vegetable, vineyard, and forest areas. Eleven nematode species belonging to Xiphinema, Longidorus, and Trichodorus were recovered from soils around the rhizosphere of 28 plants. Identified species include X. pachtaicum (rhizosphere of 26 plants, e.g., grapevine and olive ), X. turcicum (rhizosphere of grapevine), X. pyrenaicum (rhizosphere of grapevine and fig), X.ingens (rhizosphere of grapevine), X. italiae (rhizosphere of, e.g., grapevine and fig), X. index (habitat of nine plants, e.g., olive, peach), Xiphinema diversicaudatum (rhizosphere of grapevine and fig), X. opisthohysterum (rhizosphere of grapevine), L. elongatus (rhizosphere of four plants, e.g., kiwi and cherry), L. attenuatus (habitat of olive and grapevine) and T. similis (rhizosphere of grapevine and walnut). Of all plants, the habitat of 22 constitutes a new record for longidorid and trichodorid nematodes in Turkey. This article also includes information generated on a national scale for Xiphinema spp., Longidorus spp., and Trichodorus spp. being identified in Turkey.
