Morphological study of microwave-assisted facile synthesis of gold nanoflowers/nanoparticles in aqueous medium and their catalytic application for reduction of p-nitrophenol to p-aminophenol

Abstract: The present work reports a facile, microwave assisted one-pot synthesis of gold (Au) nanostructures with different morphologies. The Au nanoparticles were synthesized using an aqueous solution of AuCl 3 and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) as a structure directing agent. DMSO plays a crucial role in the synthesis as it acts as a reducing agent and capping agent. It also controls the crystal morphology of Au nanoparticles. The phase identification, morphology and elemental composition of the synthesized Au nanoparticle… Show more

“…XRD shows the diffraction peaks at 2 theta value of 38.5 o , 44.7 o , 64.9 o , 77.8 o and 82.0 o correspond to (111), (200), (220), (311) and (222) phases (Figure ) (JCPDS card no. 04–0784) . Peak corresponding to (111) plane has the height intensity, suggesting the predominant orientation of (111) plane in the Au NPs.…”

“…The former employs boiling sodium citrate and the sodium borohydride with organic solvents. Gold nanoparticles with various shapes including nanoplates [19], nanoflowers [20,21], nanostars [22], spinous [23] and nanorods [24] are known. Recently triangular gold and silver nanoplates have attracted increased attention due to their extremely high anisotropy and localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) properties [25][26][27][28].…”
