Durio zibethinus is an Indonesian most popular edible durian. This species' genetic diversity is the highest compared to other durian species. Brongkol Village, Semarang, Indonesia is one of the villages that produce superior durian varieties. Brongkol durian is well-known for its sweet and bitter taste of aril with its white to yellow color. This research aimed to analyze the diversity and to identify superior durian in Brongkol using ISSR molecular markers. DNA was isolated from the leaves of 25 varieties of Brongkol superior durian. The DN A was isolated using a modified CTAB method. The genomic DNA was amplified using PCR employing 7 ISSR markers. The amplified DNA band was visualized using a 2% agarose gel electrophoresis. Data were analyzed using the NTSYS’ pc version 2.02 program. The alleles produced in this study were 340-3,000 bp in size. The Polymorphic alleles were found as much as 90.2%. The results of study showed a similarity level of 0.29-0.95. All of the Brongkol superior durians were identified as different varieties. All of the superior Brongkol durians studied were identified as distinct varieties. The results of this study indicated a high diversity of superior durian in Brongkol. In addition, specific alleles were found in varieties B5 and B16.

Kundur Island has incredible potential for tropical fruits in Riau Islands Province. Land utilization for tropical fruit planting must be supported by land resource data, such as maps of characteristics and land suitability, to optimize tropical fruit production. This study aimed to evaluate the land suitability and determine the dominant limiting factors for tropical fruit growth and development. Land suitability was evaluated by matching the land characteristics, soil, and climatic requirements for durian, rambutan, and duku. The land suitability classes for durian, rambutan, and duku on Kundur Island are mostly marginal (S3), covering an area of 28,361 ha (90.51%), while the rest are moderately suitable (S2) and unsuitable (N). The limiting factors are drainage, root conditions influenced by peat thickness, nutrient retention, nutrient availability, depth of sulfide material, and erosion hazards. Improvements can be made by managing drainage, using cover crops, fertilization, and providing soil ameliorants. Treatments to increase land suitability must be implemented to enhance the potential of durian, rambutan, and duku plantations to be suitable (S1) or moderately suitable (S2). Land potential development for durian, rambutan, and duku is conducted by prioritizing environmental aspects and land sustainability.

Biodiversitas 22: 4054-4059. Kalimantan is the center of many tropical fruits, including durian. One of the edible durians and favorited by many is Durio zibethinus, which has many superior varieties. Almost all regions in Indonesia have superior durian varieties; for example, superior durian Gunungpati from Gunungpati Sub-district, the center for producing durian in Semarang City, Central Java, Indonesia. ISSR analysis was carried out to reveal the genetic diversity of the superior durian Gunungpati. DNA isolation of 16 superior durians used the modified CTAB method. The genomic DNA was amplified using 10 ISSR primers and then electrophoresed using 2% agarose gel. Data were analyzed using NTSYS PC version 2.02. The resulting allele has a relative size of 220 bp-1800 bp, with 87.9% are polymorphic. The similarity coefficient of 16 varieties was ranged between 0.54-0.88. All the superior durian varieties examined were different accessions so that each variety has the potential to be registered as a new variety of superior Indonesian durian. Specific alleles are found in G1, G3, G7, G8, and G13, which can be an identity of these varieties.
