Morphological and Physiological Responses of Melia azedarach Seedlings of Different Provenances to Drought Stress

Abstract: Melia azedarach Linn. is a deciduous tree of the Melia genus in the Meliaceae family that is native to China. To study the mechanism of drought resistance in Melia azedarach and evaluate the drought resistance capacity of each provenance, we selected eight provenances (Shandong Kenli, Jiangsu Pizhou, Hubei Shayang, Jiangsu Xuanwu, Jiangxi Xihu, Jiangsu Jurong, Guangdong Luogang, and Henan Shihe) as the research subjects and set four levels of drought stress treatment (CK: 75% of field capacity, mild drought: 6… Show more

“…This is similar to the research results from GAO Xiang [9]. For tree species with weak salt tolerance, there showed a direct reduction trend (the weaker the salt tolerance, the greater the salt concentration), which is consistent with the research results for the neem seedlings from Zhang Yuanlan [10].…”

“…In the 10d and 20th of the stress experiment and the 10th and 20th of the rehydration experiment, the seedling height, ground diameter and biomass were recorded according to the method of Han et al. (2022) , and the root-to-body ratio was calculated.…”

“…This area is characterized by a north subtropical monsoon climate, showcasing four well-defined seasons with plentiful sunshine, an average annual temperature of 15.2 • C, a frost-free period lasting around 233 days, an average annual precipitation of 1055.6 mm, and an average annual relative humidity of 79%. The environment here is highly conducive to the growth and development of forestry production [22]. The S. tonkinensis plantation has a density of 112 plants/mu, with a spacing of 2.15 m × 2 m between plants.…”
