Morphological and morphometrical characteristics of the interdigital gland in Kivircik sheep

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine the morphological and morphometric characteristics of the interdigital gland in Kivircik sheep. The interdigital glands in the forefeet and hind feet of the 16 male Kivircik sheep were examined in terms of morphometric and morphological characteristics. Four lengths (length of duct and corpus, diameter of duct and corpus) and 2 angles (angle of internal and external flexure) were measured in the interdigital glands located between 2 digits after dissection. The interd… Show more

“…These values in Hemshin sheep were found as 9.29 mm, 7.48 mm and 20.90 mm, 18.95 mm, respectively. Differently from the researchers [16,21] , the gland in fore feet of Hemshin sheep was determined to be considerably larger compared to the hind feet as was reported in the literature [4,8,24] (P<0.05).…”

“…The wall structure of the Hemshin sheep' interdigital gland was composed of epidermis, dermis, and a capsule and hair follicles, sebaceous glands, sweat glands, muscle fibers, and apocrine glands were observed in the interdigital glands of the Hemshin sheep like Kıvırcık [16] and Akkaraman [22] sheep. It was not run across the nerve plexus as described in Kıvırcık [16] sheep and lymph follicles as described in Tuj [26] sheep.…”
