Morphologic and mechanical characteristics of engineered bovine arteries

Abstract: These findings aid in the systematic understanding of the effects of in vitro parameters on engineered vessels and will be useful for the translation of vessel culture techniques to human cells for the development of autologous human vascular grafts.

“…Vascular SMC were harvested by using standard explant techniques as described in ref. 45. Briefly, the saphenous vein was incised longitudinally, and the endothelial cells were removed by vigorously scraping the surface of the lumen with a scalpel blade to expose the medial layer of the vessel.…”

We hypothesize that the degradation behaviour of polymeric polyester nanofibre will be milder than block materials, given the high surface area for diffusion of acidic degradation products.…”
