Abstract: ASBTRACT -(Seed coat morphoanatomy in seven species of Passifl ora L., subgenus Passifl ora (Passifl oraceae)). The morphology and anatomy of the seed coat of seven species of the genus Passifl ora L. were studied in order to evaluate the taxonomic value of seed characters in this genus. Three morphological types of seed coat surfaces were found and seven anatomical patterns are species specifi c, so that, seed coat attributes can be used to distinguish species. Key words: anatomy, morphology, seed RESUMEN -(M… Show more

“…These differences may be explained by the fact that P. spinosa is part of a taxonomic complex, and the variation seen in the seeds may be because the material analyzed by these authors may not have been P. spinosa, but another species of the complex. Pérez-Cortéz et al (2005;2009) studied the anatomy of the seed cover for a total of 15 species of the Passiflora subgenus Passiflora. Eight species were analyzed in 2005 and seven in 2009, but only in the 2009 publication did they describe the type of surface ornamentation, including reticulate, reticulate-foveolate and scrobiculate.…”

“…5; Appendix S2). Passifloroideae has compressed seeds that are larger than seeds of the other subfamilies, ranging from approximately 1.4 to 14 mm long, with ovoid, obovoid or elliptic shape and foveolate, coarsely foveolate, reticulate‐foveolate, or transversally grooved hard seed coats (e.g., de Wilde, 1972, 1974, 1976; Feuillet and MacDougal, 2007; Pérez‐Cortéz et al, 2002, 2009; Pérez‐Cortéz, 2007; Mezzonato‐Pires et al, 2017; Figs. 4 and 5).…”
