“…Investigation of different B-cell malignancies has shown that BJP could be detected in at least one half of the cases. This is in accordance with previous work using this (Abelev et al, 1983;Abelev and Karamova, 1987) or other techniques (Pierson et al, 1980;Stevenson et al, 1983;Pascali and Pezzoli, 1986). This suggests that BJP is a valuable tumor marker not only for multiple myeloma but also for other kinds of B-cell malignancy.…”

“…These results were in line with earlier data of Pierson et a1. (1980) who used, however, a much more complicated method for detecting trace amounts of BJP in CLL.The presence of BJP in a significant proportion of CLL and NHL patients has also been observed using a combination of means to concentrate urine associated with: electrophoresisimmunofixaltion (Pascali and Pezzoli, 1986;Pezzoli and PasCali, 1986):, immunoisoelectrofocusing (Stevenson et al, 1983) or iso'electrofocusing in agarose gels coupled with immunoblotting (Norden et al, 1987).BJP may thus serve as an immunological marker not only in multiple myeloma, where it is quite common, but also in CLL and NHL, where it has commonly been considered to be very rare (Bergsagel and Pruzansky, 1979).However, BJP has not been used to follow up CLL or NHL patients in t:he course of chemotherapy, particularly in longterm monitoring of patients undergoing several episodes of remission and relapse. In particular, patients with complete clinical remission have not been systematically studied in this respect .…”

“…Three of them had NHL, three had CLL, and two had MGUS. All these patients had a polyclonal increase in immunoglobulin concentration, no homogeneous immunoglobulin bands being detectable by No. 11 PURE BENCE JONES PROTEINURIA .…”

“…By means of recently introduced methods with more sensitivity, however, the accumulation of monoclonal light-chain proteins could be demonstrated in 40%-65% of the NHL cases (31)(32)(33).…”
