Mono- and Bimetalic Amidoboranes

Abstract: Abstract:In this review, we present an overview on metal amidoboranes, which have recently been considered as hydrogen storage materials for fueling of the low temperature fuel cells. We focus on amidoborane salts containing only metal cations and amidoborate anions. During the last decades, 19 new compounds from this group were described in the literature. We provide a summary of various physical and chemical properties of amidoborane compounds reported up to date.

“…[9] The aforementioned NH 3 BH 3 and LiNH 2 BH 3 ,t ogether with many others, are referred to as B-and N-based Hs toragem aterials. [15][16][17][18][19][20][21] There is also the H-free counterpart, that is, sp 2 boron nitride, BN, which can be found in the amorphous (a-BN), turbostratic (t-BN), rhombohedral (r-BN) and hexagonal (h-BN) phases. [22,23] In the following, we will not distinguish these phases and will use the label BN as representative of the sp 2 hybridization.…”

“…[12] It has been demonstrated by both experimental and theoretical studies that dehydrogenation performance of amidoboranes strongly depends on the ionicity and the size of the involved metalc ation.V arious metals pecies, havingd ifferent atomic radii, charge, electronegativity,a nd coordination number,f orm bondinginteractions with the (NH 2 BH 3 ) À group, enabling tailoring of relevant properties, especially when more than one metali si nvolved. [15][16][17][18][19] Several bimetallic amidoboranes of different stoichiometries were prepared by mechanical ball milling. “…Owarzany et al [12] present an overview on metal amidoboranes M(NH2BH3) with M = Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Mg, Ca, Sr, Y, Al, and Zn. Amidoboranes constitute a constantly growing family of NH3BH3 derivatives, especially investigated as solid-state chemical hydrogen storage materials.…”
