Monitoring Rice Crop and Paddy Field Condition Using UAV RGB Imagery

Abstract: An effective crop management practice is very important to the sustenance of crop production. With the emergence of Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0), precision farming has become the key element in modern agriculture to help farmers in maintaining the sustainability of crop production. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) also known as drone was widely used in agriculture as one of the potential technologies to collect the data and monitor the crop condition. Managing and monitoring the paddy field especially at th… Show more

“…Therefore, this model can be used to verify the correctness of varieties in the inspection process of plantings in the context of seed certification. This is in line with what was stated by Sari et al (2021) that imagery from drones (RGB) can be used in rice monitoring. The CNN model is also reported for the detection and classification of plant pests and diseases (Domingues et al, 2022) and corn seeds in the context of testing purity (Bi et al, 2022).…”

“…The farm manager can now view the entire paddy field using aerial imagery without missing any locations. Therefore, aerial imagery using multispectral sensors can assist farm management in constantly monitoring paddy with ground surveying for validation (Lu et al, 2021;Sari et al, 2021).…”

“…To secure rice productivity, early monitoring is important to identify the crop condition, to improve rice crop management, and eventually to estimate rice production (Sari et al, 2021). Rice plant characteristics that can be monitored are plant height (Muangprakhon & Kaewplang, 2021), chlorophyll content index (Ban et al, 2022;Wang et al, 2023), number of tillers (Munibah et al, 2022) and leaf area index (LAI) (Gong et al, 2021).…”

“…Remote sensing is the science and art of obtaining information about an object, area, or phenomenon through the analysis of data acquired by a device that is not in contact with the object, area, or phenomenon under investigation (Lillesand et al, 2014). Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is one remote sensing platform to collect data and monitor crop conditions with high spatiotemporal resolution imagery (Duan et al, 2019;Sari et al, 2021;Bascon et al, 2022). UAVs have abilities to acquire the earth's surface with low flight (more detail) and short revisit time on the same location (more database).…”
