Monitoring of polyphenol mangiferin by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry in rat and its comparative pharmacokinetic study of a single compound, a single botanic extract and multiple botanic extract

Abstract: The aim of this study is to develop a sensitive, validated specific performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry method to analysis of spinosin, jujuboside A, jujuboside B, mangiferin, pachymic acid, ferulic aid, and glycyrrhizic acid in herbal preparations. This validated method was further applied to a comparative study on the pharmacokinetics and oral bioavailability of mangiferin following administration of mangiferin (a single compound), Anemarrhenae Rhizoma extracts (a single‐herb extract),… Show more

“…In addition, this approach was applied for the quantification of seven catechins in rat plasma [ 95 ]. This method was also applied by Chang et al for the determination and quantification of mangiferin, single Anemarrhenae Rhizoma extract and multiple botanic extract of Suan-Zao-Ren decoction (SZRD) in rat plasma [ 107 ]. Zhang et al also verified that this UHPLC–MS/MS method is suitable for the separation and simultaneous determination of two bioactive compounds (angoroside C and its metabolite ferulic acid) in biological samples from rats [ 104 ].…”

“…Herbal combinations also influence the pharmacokinetic features of the herbal constituents after oral administration. The absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination of compounds from a single herb may be changed in herbal combinations, and hence the pharmacokinetic parameters of herbs in combination can be somewhat unexpected (Zhang et al 2015;Chang et al 2018). These changes influence absorption, bioaccumulation, gastrointestinal permeability, and excretion (Shi et al 2015;Wang et al, 2016a) and, thus, alter bioavailability (Mao et al, 2017a).…”
