Monitoring landslides with geophysical and geodetic observations

Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate and predict land movement by integrating geodetic, geophysical and meteorological data in a landslide area. Specifically, electrical resistivity tomography surveying, Global Navigation Satellite System and terrestrial laser scanning techniques were integrated to monitor a landslide. The study area lies to the southeast of the town of Taşkent in southern Turkey, close to Balcılar in the Central Taurus mountain chain. Landslides result in considerable damage to structu… Show more

“…Many researchers have attempted to determine any displacements utilizing h 2 -criteria method in many deformation-related applications such as bridge (Erol et al 2005), mining (Kayikci and Yalcinkaya 2015), earthquake (Ozener et al 2013;Sabuncu and Ozener 2014;Tiryakioglu et al 2019), landslide (Yalçinkaya and Bayrak 2005;Acar et al 2008;Hastao glu 2013;Zeybek et al 2015), dam (Bayrak 2007). In order to detect any displacements with h 2 -criteria method, the geodetic network is measured at least two different observation times with geodetic methods.…”

“…TDR and BOTDR had some successes to monitor soil deformation along linear monitoring network. However, sinkholes are more likely triggered by multiple factors, joint application of more than 2 monitoring technologies would be necessary in many cases (Zeybek et al, 2015). Monitoring and early warning technologies are crucial to prevent sinkhole collapse and to mitigate damage caused by sinkhole hazards.…”

“…At the same time, it can also model the massive 3D point coordinates of the measured target surface rather than the form of the little single points [8]. Due to the convenience of the data acquisition and the robustness of the point cloud data interpretation, this technique has been widely employed in landslide monitoring [6,9], as-built modeling [10], surface defect detection [11][12][13], construction morphological identifcation [14,15], medium and small span bridge health monitoring [16,17], and bridge component recognition [18]. However, rare practices can be found for long-span bridges due to their large-scale dimensions, which results in the challenge of an extra-long scan range and an extreme-small incidence angle for laser scanners.…”
