Monitoring Damage Evolution in a Titanium Matrix Composite Shaft Under Torsion Loading Using Acoustic Emission

Abstract: The damage behaviors of a titanium matrix composite shaft under torsion loading were monitored using the acoustic emission technique. The composite shaft with SiC fibers at ± 45° orientations was prepared by the solid-state fabrication process. Both the torsional rigidity and torsional strength of the TMC shaft were improved by SiC fibers. The acoustic emission responses during the loading-unloading-reloading, under quasi-static and cyclic torsion tests were investigated. Multiple acoustic emission signals wer… Show more

“…The Ti matrix composites were fabricated through the matrix-coated fibre route to achieve homogeneous fibre distribution. The matrix with a nominal composition of Ti-6Al-4V was deposited on long SiC fibres using magnetron sputtering [21]. The dimensions of the test piece were 173 mm × 24.5 mm × 5.4 mm.…”

“…Kong et al conducted an empirical study on the characteristics affecting students' evaluation results and found that six characteristics can explain 25.8% of the variation of students' evaluation results. Students' evaluation of teachers' teaching has certain limitations, which can only be used as a reference for teachers to improve teaching [8]. On the other hand, the evaluation of students' performance can be greatly influenced by the way of Glanbock, but on the other hand, it has no influence on the evaluation of students' performance.…”

“…Some researchers have studied fatigue and fracture damage of TiMMC on microscopic levels. 38 Feng and Yang 3 studied the interfacial compatibility of fibre -reinforced titanium matrix composites (SiC f /Ti) by using fibre coating and subsequent heat treatment to increase the interfacial shear strengths. Feng et al 4 investigated tension-tension fatigue properties of SiC f /Ti-6Al-4V.…”
