Monitoring and Prediction Analysis of Settlement for the Substation on Soft Clay Foundation

Abstract: The bearing capacity of soft clay foundations is low, which easily causes excessive cumulative and uneven settlement of the substation. This will seriously threaten the safe operation of equipment in the substation. Based on a 220-kV substation project in a coastal soft clay ground, the settlement of the substation building is monitored on the spot, and the settlement law of soft clay ground is analyzed. Furthermore, a three-dimensional finite element model is developed using finite element software named ZSOI… Show more

“…This requirement is nearly 10 times stricter than the allowable settlement difference between adjacent supports in industrial and civil buildings. Once the uneven settlement of foundations exceeds the specified limit, it poses a serious risk to the safe and stable operation of GIS equipment, leading to potential issues such as gas leaks and discharges [1,2].…”

“…When the foundation subsides uniformly, the additional internal stress on the electrical equipment on the ground is small, and it will not cause great harm. However, when the ground subsides unevenly, the additional internal stress on the electrical equipment on the ground is huge, which is easy to cause the electrical equipment to break, tilt or even fall, resulting in electrical equipment accidents [4].…”

“…Electric power substations play a crucial role in the power system, and any faults or abnormalities that occur in their equipment can have serious impacts on the power system [1]. For example, substation equipment failures can lead to unstable power grids, or even power outages, causing inconvenience and losses to people's production and daily lives.…”
