Molecular structure design and synthetic approaches to the heterometallic alkoxide complexes (soft chemistry approach to inorganic materials by the eyes of a crystallographer)

Abstract: General principles of formation and stability of the heterometallic alkoxides existing due to Lewis Acid-Base interaction, isomorphous substitution and heterometallic metal-metal bonds are discussed. The molecular structure design approach based on the choice of a proper molecular structure type and completing it with the ligands, providing both the necessary number of donor atoms and the sterical protection of the metaloxygen core, is presented. Its applications in prediction of the composition and structure … Show more

“…1 Este uso pode ser explicado pela facilidade com que óxidos de alta pureza e de estequiometria e estrutura definidas podem ser obtidos a partir destes alcóxidos, principalmente através do processo sol-gel ou pelos métodos de deposição química ou física de vapor (CVD e PVD). 1,2 As características dos produtos advindos destes processos são amplamente dependentes das estruturas moleculares dos precursores em solução.…”

“…6 This approach has been used in industry for tailoring metal oxides with well-defined specifications for catalytic applications and the fabrication of advance ceramics. 7 Evidently, the solubility and stability of modified metal alkoxides depend on the type of ligand and its coordination status. Recent studies show that due to the lability of metal alkoxides, their alkoxy groups can be replaced quite readily by a wide variety of ligands containing hydroxyl groups.…”
