Molecular phylogeny of the South American land slugPhyllocaulis(Mollusca, Soleolifera, Veronicellidae)

Abstract: Our main objectives were investigate the phylogenetic relationships between the species of the land slug Phyllocaulis and the monophyly of the genus based on mitochondrial (16S and COI) and nuclear (ITS2) DNA sequences from multiple individuals from each species. Evolutionary trees were constructed using Bayesian inference, maximum likelihood, maximum parsimony and neighbor-joining methods. All species accepted in the current taxonomy based on penial characteristics and radular measurements were reciprocally m… Show more

“…In order to compare the morphology we also examined specimens of M. bilineatum (Benson, 1842) (Tsai et al, 2005) (Table 1). The primers and protocols used to amplify this marker are according to Gomes et al (2010).…”

“…High values of genetic divergence were reported for the land slug Phyllocaulis (13.1%) (Gomes et al 2010) and between congeneric species of Ariophantidae and Dyakiidae (4.3 to 10.1%) (Abu-Bakar et al 2014). Moreover, Liew et al (2009) reported divergence values of 5% to 25% within Everettia spp.…”
