Molecular mechanisms of versatile biological activity of interleukin-7

Abstract: As a result of immunological studies of the last 25 years it turned out that interleukin-7 (IL-7) is one of the most important regulatory cytokines of the immune system. It is special in many concerns. Having a strong impact on the development, proliferation and activation of immune cells it is, however, cannot be attributed to the classic cytokine-activators, like IL-2, as many types of cells require its presence at almost all stages of the development, and its spectrum of activities is impressive. The review… Show more

“…Data prove an increase in the level of IL-7 in plasma and lymph in response to the depletion of the T-cell lymphocytes in favor of this mechanism [29]. Among other things, the participation of IL-7 in the development of dendritic cells, natural killers and lymphoid tissue inducer cells has been proved [1]. There is an interesting data regarding a deficit of IL-7 in septic patients [30]: septic patients showed the lowest levels of IL-7.…”

“…I nterleukin-7 (IL-7) is a central cytokine of the immune system, which plays an important role in the modulation of T-and B-cell development and T-cell homeostasis [1,2]. The potential and wide range of its effects suggest that IL-7 administration will stimulate immunity in patients with lymphocytic exhaustion and autoimmune diseases.…”

“…IL-7 is capable of regulating immune system homeostasis due to its ability to handle balance between processes of apoptosis and proliferation of thymocytes, naïve T cells and memory cells. This is how IL-7 provides consistency of number and functional activity of these populations (Slyvka et al, 2014;Grigorieva et al, 2019;Galkin et al, 2017a). Recombinant proteins, which are intended to be used in medicine for curative purposes, shall correspond to specific requirements, distinguishing them from those proteins used for scientific and research purposes only (Lutsenko et al, 2017;Natochii et al, 2019;Sokol et al, 2020a).…”
