“…They were identical to sequences in GenBank found by Yang et al. () from C. chamissoi collected in Chile. Moreover, samples of both forms can share the same haplotype and be found in the same locality (Rodríguez ), supporting the interpretation that the two forms correspond to the same species.…”

“…Chondracanthus chamissoi (Rhodophyta, Gigartinaceae) is a common red seaweed along the coasts of the southeastern Pacific Ocean, extending from Perú (5° S) to Ancud, Chile (42° S; Ramírez and Santelices , Hoffmann and Santelices ), although recent molecular evidence indicates that this species is also present in Korea, Japan, and France (Yang et al. ). It has been used as a source for the extraction of the commercially important phycocolloid carrageenan (Hoffmann and Santelices ), but more recently, it has been exported as an edible seaweed to Asia (Bulboa and Macchiavello ).…”

“…Pero el tráfico marítimo no solo se realiza al Pacífico noroeste, importante área donante de especies, sino que también receptora pues recientemente, sobre la base de evidencias moleculares, se ha registrado la presencia de Chondracanthus chamissoi (C.Agardh) Kützing (endémica de la costa de Chile y Perú; Ramírez & Santelices, 1991), en la costa del sudeste asiático (Yang et al, 2015).…”

“…Although the inclusion of molecular data has become commonplace in modern taxonomy (Yang et al 2015, These considerations clearly reveal the possibility that current taxonomy of H. saidana based on vegetative morphology could be mistaken as Díaz-Tapia et al (2013) mentioned, although some red algal species can be assigned to Hypnea based on morphology, they could be assigned equally well to Calliblepharis. This implies that phylogeny regarding species of these two genera requires highly refined morphological characterization and molecular analysis using diverse species enough to allow inter-genera comparison within the order Gigartinales.…”
