Molecular epidemiological characterization ofBrucellaisolates from sheep and yaks in northwest China

Abstract: Animal brucellosis is a re-emerging disease in China with high prevalence in the northwest region. A total of 66 isolates of Brucella were recovered from sheep and yaks in the Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Qinghai and Gansu provinces of northwest China in 2015 and 2016. Using classical biotyping and the Brucella AMOS PCR assay, all isolates were identified as Brucella melitensis biovar 3 (n = 58), B. melitensis biovar 1 (n = 1), Brucella abortus (n = 5), or Brucella suis biovar 3 (n = 2), and B. melitensis biovar … Show more

“…In the last 12 years, brucellosis has re-emerged in most regions of China, showing an annual increase in animal and human infections during this period [21,22]. The prevalence and dissemination of animals (sheep) brucellosis were very serious, resulting to extensive human brucellosis and incidence rate of human brucellosis in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was the ranked top three in Chinese provinces [19].…”

“…In the previous study [ 10 ], sixty-six isolates were collected from northwest China; 13, 26, 17, and 10 were from Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, and Qinghai provinces, respectively ( Table 1 ). Brucella were reproduced in BBL™ Brucella Broth (BD, USA) with 5% horse serum at 37°C.…”
