Molecular Characterization of Sarcocytis Fusiformis and Sarcocystis Buffalonis Infecting Water Buffaloes (Bubalus Bubalis) From Egypt

Abstract: Parasites of the genus Sarcocystis have the ability to infect wide range of animals, birds and reptiles. Water buffaloes are intermediate hosts for four Sarcocystis species; S. fusiformis, S. buffalonis, S. levinei and S. dubeyi. There was no previous molecular identification of Sarcocystis spp. parasitizing water buffaloes from Egypt. The current study was established to screen infection rates and apply genetic identification of the macroscopic Sarcocystis spp. infecting Egyptian water buffalos in El-Gharbia … Show more

“…The cyst wall was smooth, thick and measured about 1.5 -4 µm. The obtained result is supported by observation of El-Dakhly et al [9], El-Seifyet al [33] where they found that S.fusiformis cyst wall measured 1-3 µm and 2.6 -14.5 µm respectively.…”

“…1 and 2). Similar observations were made by El -Seify et al 2014. S. fusiformis infecting water buffaloes was studied in different countries and showed high incidences like 83.3% in Turkey (Retzlaff and Weise, 1969), 94% in China (Xiao et al, 1988) and 88% in Vietnam (Huong et al, 1995).…”

“…Das amostras analisadas em Yazd, Irã (Hajimohammadi et al, 2014), 77,9% foram positivas para Sarcocystis spp. No Egito do total de amostras analisadas, 53% e 12,3% estavam infectadas por S. fusiformis e S. buffalonis, respectivamente (El-Seify, 2014). No norte da Índia pela PCR convencional 72,8% das amostras foram positivas, enquanto pela qPCR houve positividade em 76,4% (Kaur et al, 2015).…”
