Molecular characterization of Ehrlichia canis from naturally infected dogs from the state of Rio de Janeiro

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the genetic diversity of Ehrlichia canis in naturally infected dogs from six mesoregions of Rio de Janeiro state. E. canis was diagnosed with a real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) targeting a 93 base pair (bp) fragment of the 16S rDNA gene. To evaluate the genetic diversity of the parasite, we amplified a positive sample from each mesoregion by distinct conventional PCR assays with targets in the gp19 (414 bp), gp36 (814 bp), and p28 (843 bp) genes. A total o… Show more

“…Cicuttin et al [11] performed molecular detection of E. canis on the canine blood samples from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the PCR-positive rate was 6.7% (15/223) . da Costa et al [15] performed molecular detection of E. canis on Brazilian dogs, and the PCR-positive rate ranged from 14.6% to 42.3%. Daramola et al [12] detected blood samples from dogs in South West Nigeria used by nested PCR, and the positive rate was 22.9% (47/2015).…”

“…to detect antibodies against the parasite after onset of the infection (Kottadamane et al 2017;Mitta et al 2017;Piratae et al 2019). Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a widely used molecular technique to confirm blood parasite infection due to its high sensitivity and specificity (Liu et al 2016;Csokai et al 2017;Yuasa et al 2017;Konto et al 2017;da Costa et al 2019); Kovacevic et al 2018;Rucksaken et al 2019).…”
