Molecular Biological Characterization of a Highly Leukaemogenic Virus Isolated from the Mouse. III. Identity with Mouse Mammary Tumour Virus

Abstract: SUMMARYA highly leukaemogenic virus isolate (DMBA-LV) endogenous to the CFW/D mouse has been found to contain two viral genomes. One was closely related to the type B milk-borne mouse mammary tumour virus (MMTV) and present in tenfold excess over a type C viral genome which was only partially related to xenotropic and polytropic isolates from the CFW/D mouse as well as to the ecotropic Moloney routine leukaemia virus isolate. The thymic lymphoma cell line that produced DMBA-LV expressed high levels of MMTV vir… Show more

“…In certain inbred strains of mice T-cell lymphomagenesis is directly correlated with the presence and expression of newly acquired multiple copies of MMTV (Ball & McCarter, 1979;Michalides et al, 1982;Ball et al, 1983;Dudley & Risser, 1984;Ball & Dekaban, 1987 Wagenaar, 1986;Lee et al, 1987;Ball et al, 1988) (Fig. 1).…”

“…The origin and properties of these cell lines have been described (Ball, 1979;Ball & McCarter, 1979). The DMT-10 cell line which produces a non-infectious type C retrovirus has been described (Ball et aL, 1983).…”

“…The origin and properties of these cell lines have been described (Ball, 1979;Ball & McCarter, 1979). The DMT-10 cell line which produces a non-infectious type C retrovirus has been described (Ball et aL, 1983). The 3T3 FL cells chronically infected with Moloney murine leukaemia virus (MoMuLV/ICB) and the Hix cell line chronically infected with a recombinant type C retrovirus were kindly provided by Dr P. J. Fischinger.…”

“…Three different inbred mouse strains, BALB/c (Charles River), C57BL/6 (Charles River) and CFW/D (Ball & McCarter, 1979) were immunized at 6 to 8 weeks of age by intraperitoneal injection. Two different forms of HTLV-I envelope protein immunogens were studied.…”
