Molar tubal ectopic pregnancy: Report of two cases

Abstract: Ectopic molar pregnancy is a rare occurrence and consequently not often considered as a diagnostic possibility. We report two cases of molar hydatidiform tubal pregnancy. Diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy was confirmed on clinical biological and sonographic investigations. Diagnosis of molar pregnancy was done on histopathology. The clinical course was favorable for both patients. Although rare, molar changes can occur at any site of an ectopic pregnancy. Clinical diagnosis of a molar pregnancy is difficult but h… Show more

“…Patients with ectopic molar pregnancies are clinically indistinguishable from patients with ectopic nonmolar pregnancies, although there is a higher tendency to rupture at the time of presentation, resulting in hemoperitoneum (33). US findings include an empty uterus and a complex adnexal mass with or without a live embryo in the setting of tubal and ovarian ectopic pregnancies (33). To our knowledge, the MR imaging features of ectopic molar pregnancy have not been reported in the literature.…”

“…Ectopic Molar Pregnancy.-Ectopic molar pregnancy is an extremely rare condition with an estimated prevalence of approximately 1.5 per 1 million births in the United Kingdom (32). Both CHM and PHM can develop in ectopic sites, with reported cases in the fallopian tube (including the interstitial portion), cervix, and ovaries (33)(34)(35). Patients with ectopic molar pregnancies are clinically indistinguishable from patients with ectopic nonmolar pregnancies, although there is a higher tendency to rupture at the time of presentation, resulting in hemoperitoneum (33).…”

“…3 In the United Kingdom, an incidence of 1.5/1 000 000 as documented in a 15-year study 4 ; while in Tunisia, an incidence of 4.3/10 000 was reported in a university hospital in 2012. 5 The diagnosis of tubal hydatidiform moles depends mainly on pathology in the present case. Histologically, they are difficult to be distinguished from two situations: non-molar hydropic abortion and early placentation.…”
