MOF-derived sponge-like hierarchical porous carbon for flexible all-solid-state supercapacitors

Abstract: Novel 3D sponge-like hierarchical porous carbons using different-sized MOFs (Zn(tbip)) as precursors are successfully prepared via a one-step pyrolysis process, and are promising for application in high-performance flexible all-solid-state supercapacitors.

“…In this sense, metal-organic frameworks (MOF) can act both as a source of metal and conductive carbon for the surface coating. 22,23 Xiao Long Xu et al 24 coated the commercial LiFePO 4 by zeolitic imidazolate frameworks, ZIF-8. They report an improvement in cycling properties.…”

“…Many other reports that introduced different aromatic linkers [39][40][41][42][43] or aliphatic linkers [44][45][46] into the Zn-MOF templates were published. The former reports are further divided into two parts based on whether bdc modified linkers were employed [39,40] or not [41][42][43]. A NH 2 -bdc or 2-aminobenzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid-based Zn-MOF (IRMOF-3) was used as a self-sacrificing template for the scalable synthesis of a hierarchical N-doped porous carbon (N-doping level = 3.3%) [39].…”

“…Zn(thip) (thip = 5-tert-butyl isophpthalate) was employed as a precursor for the preparation of 3D sponge shaped porous carbons (PCs) with interconnected hierarchical porosity as shown in Figure 2 [41]. From a single-step carbonization (2 h, Ar flow) of two different particle sized Zn-MOFs (Zn(thip)-B and Zn(thip)-S), the corresponding carbon samples (C-B-n, C-S-n, n = carbonization temperature in • C) were obtained.…”
