Modified Proportionate Affine Projection Algorithm Based Adaptive DSTATCOM Control With Increased Convergence Speed

Abstract: The three-phase DSTATCOM is prone to higher dynamics due to grid disturbances. The proportionate affine projection algorithm (PAPA) is an adaptive filter that can be used for DSTATCOM control. In order to overcome the sluggish convergence speed of adaptive filters, PAPA is proposed in this paper. The convergence rate versus the steady-state error is a trade-off in conventional adaptive filters. However, the utilization of two adaptive filters in CSS-PAPA increases the convergence and decreases the steady-state… Show more

“…Although it covered a nonstationary condition, the research did not include multicarrier modulation. Dash et al, [15] proposed various approaches to improve the convergence rate, including the use of a modified proportionate affine projection algorithm. Although their suggested technique enhances the performance of LMS, has a low misadjustment error and acceptable complexity, the method was not derived for the OFDM system.…”

“…Using an electronic voltagesource converter (VSC), it can provide or sink reactive alternating current (AC) power from a grid. As a fastcompensating reactive power source, distributed STATCOM (DSTATCOM) reduces voltage changes like sags, surges, and flicker produced by quickly changing reactive power demand on the transmission or distribution system [33]. Because a DC capacitor at DC-side of VSC is used to maintain the DClink voltage constant, a DSTATCOM has a low active power generation capacity.…”

“…where λ is the adaptation constant and γ is the learning rate, and its value ranges between 0 and 1. Equation (19) shows the weight updation equation of the LLMF control technique, which is being used in the proposed controller to extract the fundamental active weight of the load current. The LLMF technique is developed for the control of a Distribution Static Compensator (DSTATCOM), which provides the necessary compensating currents at PCC so that the supply current is perfectly sinusoidal.…”
