Wireless sensor networks have strict constrains in size, weight and energy. The conflict of long lifetime and strict energy constrain brings a natural integration of energy harvesting into wireless sensor networks. A modified low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) protocol has been proposed to increase the network life time. Modified LEACH is divided into two main phases at the first setup phase and at the second steady state phase. Setup phase has been modified such that cluster head (CH) selection will be selected only from advanced nodes. Results showed significant improvement in WSN overall lifetime. Simulations show number of dead nodes vs rounds. Comparison between pure LEACH and modified one showed significant improvement in lifetime, also comparison between modified LEACH and multi-path multi-hop energy efficient routing protocol shows significant improvement in performance.

INTRODUCTIONWith the advancement in smaller scale integrated circuit technology, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have begun to assume an essential part in our every day lives. It is a direct result of the lessening in cost of the sensor nodes, prompting expanding arrangements of WSNs to a larger degree. Potential applications for wireless sensor networks exist in an assortment of fields, including mechanical process checking and control, condition and living space observing, machine wellbeing checking, home automation, human services applications, atomic reactor control, fire recognition, question following and traffic control. Effective outline and usage of wireless sensor networks have turned into a hot zone of research as of late, because of the huge limit of sensor networks to empower applications associating the physical world with the virtual world. Like living beings, an assortment of current devices and types of gear depends on the sensory information from this present reality around it. These sensory data comes is given by Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), which includes a couple of minor sensor nodes to screen physical or natural conditions, for instance, temperature, vibration, weight, sound or development, and subsequently aggregately send these information to a central figuring structure, called the base station or sink. Diverse routing protocols administer the development of this data. Broadly the routing protocols can be named level based routing, various leveled based routing, and area based routing. Filter (Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) is a various leveled based routing protocol which utilizes irregular revolution of the nodes required to be the bunch heads to equitably convey energy utilization in the network. Sensor network protocols are very straightforward and consequently are exceptionally helpless to assaults like Sinkhole assault, Selective sending, Sybil assault, Wormholes, HELLO surge assault, Acknowledgment parodying, adjusting, replaying routing data. For instance, Selective sending and HELLO surge assault influences networks with grouping based protocols like LEACH.

I. INTRODUCTIONWireless Sensor Networks (WSN), are spatially distributed autonomous sensors to monitor physical or environmental conditions, such as temperature, sound, pressure, etc. and to cooperatively pass their data through the network to a main location. WSN is formed by hundreds or thousands of nodes that communicate with each other and pass data along from one to another and compulsorily connected to at least one base station. Successful operation of wireless sensor network depends upon battery life of sensor nodes. Harsh/Remote application area and less human interventions make it quite impossible to recharge or replace battery of sensor nodes. Therefore, efficient energy consumption of nodes to extend network lifetime is a prime design issue for wireless sensor networks [1]. A number of cluster protocols based on energy efficient have been proposed in the literature. These approaches attempt to minimize energy consumption by reducing the transmission of redundant data. Clustering approaches focus primarily on the communication process during cluster organization and CH election and neglect the effect of information processing on energy consumption [2]. Routing in WSNs is very challenging due to the inherent characteristics that distinguish these networks from other wireless networks like mobile ad hoc networks or cellular networks. Hierarchical cluster-based routing methods is essential for sensor network applications where a large number of sensors are deployed for sensing purposes. If each sensor starts to communicate and engage in data transmission in the network, a great network congestion and data collisions will be experienced, which results in draining of the limited energy from the network. Node clustering will address these issues. In clustered networks, nodes can be partitioned into a number of small groups called clusters. Each cluster has a coordinator, referred to as a cluster head (CH), and a number of sensor nodes (SNs). Clustering results in a twotier hierarchy in which CHs form the higher tier while SNs form the lower tier. The SNs transmit their data to the respective CHs. The CHs aggregate the data and forward them to a central base station (BS) directly or through other CHs. Clustering through creating a hierarchical WSN facilitates efficient utilization of limited energy of sensor nodes and hence extends network lifetime. [3]. In [1] author focuses on balanced network using clustering. But the random selection of nodes as cluster head reduces the chances energy enhancement of network. Random selection of CHs can lead to the probability of selection of node with low energy.
