Modelling the compression behavior of ground tire rubber

Abstract: The purpose of this paper was to study elastomer powder from crushed used tires (CUTs). In particular, the behavior of the green density of elastomeric powder was analyzed by varying compaction pressure. In the Anglo-saxon bibliography, this powder is known as ground tire rubber: ground tire rubber (GTR). The density of the tyre was made using a hydrostatic balance, the analysis of grain size using cribbing sieves, and the measures of compression parameters by means of a Universal Testing Machine. The main goa… Show more

“…Finally, the analysis of these composites shows that in general a 5-10% GTR concentration is the percentage limit value for acceptable mechanical characteristics. The finding shall allow the use of GTR in some industrial applications, through applications that could be a recycling solution for GTR in the industrial field, and so we could recycle the vast quantities of out of use GTR that represent an environmental problem due to the extreme difficulties of rubber recycling due to its crosslinked structure, Other works [30][31][32][33][34][35][36] present efforts in this direction and the present article pretends to be an effort in the field of characterization of composites with GTR, which could provide some recycling solutions in the tires and rubber fields.…”

“…The results obtained from the analysis of these compounds, show that that at 5-10% GTR concentration is the limit concentration value for keeping acceptable values of mechanical properties of the compound, in general. This would allow its use in various fields of industry, through these applications we could introduce recycled GTR in industrial applications, and so we could give also an exit to quantities of GTR in disuse that nowadays represent a problem its recycling, other works [30][31][32][33][34][35] gives an effort in this way and this research work pretend to give an effort in the characterization field of the composites with GTR.…”
