Modelling Supply Chain Management Processes in Engineer-to-Order Companies

Abstract: This paper describes the characteristics, competitive factors and supply chain ttra~~agenlent issues of an engi~leer-to-order conrpany engaged in the supply of capital goods. Structured Systems Analysis and Design Methodology is used for n~odelling the internal processes of organisatiotl, as well as interactions with custonlers and suppliers. Supply chain mniragement decisions are clearly differentiated between tendering atld coiltract execufio~z. The case study demonstrates a requirement to integrate these su… Show more

“…On component level, some are required in low volumes whereas others are needed in higher volumes; some are technologically advanced whereas others are simpler; some are customized whereas others are standardized [26]. On product level, there is usually a high degree of customization [27]. This leads to products typically coming in low volumes [27], often as ''one-of-a-kind'' [13].…”

“…Uma elevada parcela das empresas de construção industrializada possui sistemas de produção do tipo Engineer-to-order (ETO) em função da necessidade de rápidas respostas às demandas dos clientes (MCGOVERN;HICKS;EARL, 1999). Nesses sistemas, os produtos são produzidos especificamente para atender às necessidades do cliente, e alguns componentes podem ser customizados e produzidos em baixo volume (POWELL et al, 2014).…”

“…Silventoinen et al [52] conducted an entire study exploring and classifying the factors hindering an information reuse in ETO companies. In describing the ETO situation, McGovern et al [53] state that a limited reuse of engineering designs is not uncommon. They further refer to anecdotal evidence highlighting that designers appreciate the task of developing new designs.…”
